Charity Rock Ball a resounding success

Finbar Hoban presents .... Castlebars first Charity Rock Ball was a resounding success in Mulroys Bar Ritz on Saturday October 11. In asociation with Karen Conway’s current fundraising for CARI (Children at Risk in Ireland) Finbar Hoban expertly organised a night of musical brilliance with local bands Hot Rock, Mother Black Cap (a little venture away for Kneel Before Zod) and Curlisduane.

Things are about to get very spooky at Bar Ritz!

Next Friday night Finbar Hoban Presents…the very special Hallowe’en Monster Mash fancy dress party with Grand Pocket Orchestra and Music for Dead Birds. After last week’s spectacular show with We Should be Dead, Sons of Gingerbread and Short Notice, the fun-loving music community of Castlebar were treated to a night of different traditions of rock and punk music. The show kicked off with Short Notice playing covers which warmed the heart of the crowd to the lead singer’s voice, and at half ten Sons of Gingerbread took to the stage to a huge round of applause from their GMIT, college friends and played an outstanding set which kept the audience’s attention till the very last song!

Get ready for a rocking Christmas at Bar Ritz

This Christmas at Bar Ritz Finbar Hoban Presents…to you a feast of live entertainment when on December 27, local bands will perform live at Bar Ritz with the Surrogate Band (full electric Pink Floyd tribute) along with support from another local Mayo band the Zen Yetis, and then on New Year’s Eve December 31, The Massive Alternative New Year’s Eve Alternative Rock Party with the following line-up: Music For Dead Birds, Hoovers and Sledgehammers, the Funeral Suits and headliners We Should Be Dead. Basically it will be the best of the Finbar Hoban series 2008 and more. Limerick group We Should Be Dead make a welcome return to Castlebar before they plan to take on America in 2009, During their trip to the States earliear this year they met up with a lot of influential and connected people who are eager to work with them, the band are looking forward to heading over in early January to record their second album in between extensive touring for the next 12 months.

The Rain Shines at Bar Ritz

Last Saturday night Green Lights and The Bastard Rain plus support from Kudoose bought an evening of excellent live entertainment To Bar Ritz (Mulroys Bar) Castlebar. At 9.30pm local group Kudose took to the stage playing acoustic versions of Jose Gonzalez’s take on The Knifes’ version ‘Heartbeats’ right through to The Stone Roses’ ‘Waterfall’.

An epic night of entertainment at Bar Ritz

Last Saturday night saw an epic night of music come to Castlebar as the Finbar Hoban Presents series bought Ireland’s up and coming band Dirty Epics to Bar Ritz, Kicking off the night in spectacular fashion local band Orphan Alien bought their unique sound of heavy rock music, sounding at times very much like Rage Against The Machine with lead vocalist Shane Cunningham sounding very much like Zack de la Rocha. Look out for more from Orphan Alien in the future as the boys plan to play more shows around Castlebar in the future and are also heading back in to the studio to record new material in the coming months.

CARI Rock Ball will be crackers

In association with Finbar Hoban Presents, three bands again will again provide the finest of music while helping to raise funds for CARI (Children At Risk In Ireland). Hosted by Karen Conway, Saturday October 3 at 9pm sees Mulroy's Bar Ritz as the venue for Castlebar's third Charity Rock Ball with Castlebar's Hot Rock, Mother Black Cap, and Galway's 21 Outs. Also on the night there will be a Guitar Hero Challenge and the second CARI Cream Cracker Charity Challenge. The current world record is three crackers (without liquid) in 14.45 seconds and the challengers are attempting to match this record while also seeing how many crackers they can eat in a minute.
